warming up.

I know I'm not the only one who suffered from a little SAD these past few months. If you're not familiar with SAD, Mayo Clinic describes its symptoms as, "...[starting] in the fall and continue into the winter months, sapping your energy and making you feel moody." And holy hell, was I ever moody and lethargic (just ask my husband!)? Can you blame me though?

The bleak, dreary skies. The giant piles of black snow. The cold--the face burning, bone-chilling cold that makes you hibernate for weeks. Post-holiday winter sucks.

Once the Christmas trees are taken down and the halls are no longer decked with boughs of holly, winter needs to just be over. I’ll have a “White Christmas” any day of the week and then after that, I’d like 70 degrees and sunny--all the time.

These past few months, I can honestly say that the weather has really taken a toll on my happiness. Life has kicked me and Jeremiah in the ass a little bit these past few months (nothing horrible; just homeowner/car owner/pet owner problems) and the weather has not been kind on top of all that.

We’ve just been so cooped up in our house, avoiding going outside, and feeling kind of “bleh.”

Until this weekend...when the Universe decided to be nice and give us beautiful weather and sunshine! It’s pretty incredible what sunshine can do for a person’s mood. Jeremiah and I spent all day Saturday outside with Miles. First, we went to Jo & Doh Donuts to get some treats and coffee. Their donuts are by far the best I’ve ever had. I highly recommend going there if you want to taste heaven.

Then we headed down to the Naperville Riverwalk to enjoy the sunshine and get Miles some exercise. Just walking around for an hour or so made me feel so much better. I felt like these past three months of muck and clouds and cold never even happened.

Jeremiah and I even decided to venture out that same night (WHAT? GOING OUT ON A SATURDAY NIGHT????) and head to Potter's Place to see our beautiful friend, Emily, sing some song with her dueling pianos company, Felix and Fingers. We also met up with some friends we hadn't seen in awhile and it was just so so nice. I wish I could come up with a better descriptor (My creative writing teacher would not be pleased with me right now.), but that's just what it was--nice.

It's baffling to me how a little bit of sunshine can make me feel so much better--can make me want to be a social human being and venture out into the world for some beers and live music with my friends. I just feel better.

Today, we took Miles to Downtown Oswego and we walked along the Fox River at Hudson Crossing Park. Again, another beautiful (little cloudier, but still nice) day, busting out my sweet New Balances (Thank you, Joe's New Balance Outlet!) and spend some time outside with my little family. I just can't wait for more days like yesterday and today. I can't wait to share them with you like I did today with the photos below.

I can't wait to feel even better and get out of these horrible winter blues.

Spring is coming--and I’m the first to say, "WELCOME!"
